Privacy Net – December 3, 2010

As mentioned over the last couple of days, the FTC finally released its web privacy proposal, which included a “Do Not Track” option. Well, apparently that particular idea was not well received by congressional Republicans, which could prove fatal since congress will be Republican dominant come January… [paidcontent.org]

Regardless, Massachusetts democrat Edward Markey planned to introduce legislation yesterday that at least included “Do Not Track” for children’s online behavior… [AFP]

And, interestingly, apparently even within the FTC not everyone has drank the “Do Not Track” Kool Aid…plus, some people worry about the idea’s potential to curb the growth of free content on the web… [NY Times]

Indeed, that is Time Warner’s stated concern, though obviously as an interested party, it’s not surprising to hear Time Warner make the argument since “Do Not Track” could harm its advertising revenue [Broadcasting and Cable]
